About HFV

Empowering, preservation, protecting, and strengthening families.

Honouring Family Voices (HFV) is a gathering involving the family, mandated agency, other supportive and concerned collateral organizations, and/or supports the family identity.

The purpose of the gathering is to present safety issues regarding child welfare concerns and provide an opportunity for the family group to address these safety concerns with a plan of their own creation.

What Is The HFV Process?

Families are invited to participate with the mandated agency in a collaborative partnership to develop their own plans regarding the safety and well-being of their children. It is an alternative process that child welfare agencies can utilize to access the power of the family and the community surrounding them. The HFV process is an opportunity to respect the culture and wisdom traditions of the family and community.

What Are The Criteria For HFV Participants?

The HFV program may be offered to families who agree voluntarily to participate. This includes families where there has been an assessment of Low to Medium Risk. Youth aging out of care may be ideal candidates for HFV planning with the family and agency.

Who Can Be Involved In The Honouring Family Voices?

The HFV will include kinship care systems of the family group including parents or guardians, children and adolescents, and extended family members (maternal and paternal). The family members may need additional personal resources such as close friends to attend and provide emotional support.
